Ultrasound of muscles and tendons, without a referral
Want to know what is wrong with your shoulder, tendon, calf or knee without waiting for a referral? At FysioHulp in Amsterdam West you can have an ultrasound scan of muscles, tendons, bursae and joints straight away. Alexander Kudus is a musculoskeletal sonographer and discusses the images with you immediately.
What is ultrasound suitable for?
• Tendon problems: shoulder (rotator cuff), elbow, Achilles tendon, patellar tendon.
• Muscle tears and muscle injuries, for example in the calf or hamstring.
• Bursitis and fluid in a joint.
• Checking recovery after an injury or surgery.
Ultrasound shows moving tissue and is therefore often more suitable than an X-ray for tendon and muscle complaints. For bone, cartilage deep inside a joint or the intervertebral discs, ultrasound is not the right examination; we then advise another route via your GP.
How does it work?
You choose the body part yourself. The examination takes about 30 minutes. You watch the images with us and receive an immediate explanation of what can be seen and what it means for your complaint. On request you receive a short report for your GP or specialist.
Ultrasound at FysioHulp is an aid to diagnosis, not a replacement for examination by a doctor. If we see something that needs further investigation, we tell you and write a letter to your GP.
Cost
A separate ultrasound check of one body part costs € 95 and is not reimbursed by health insurance. If the scan is part of an intake or treatment, it falls under the normal physiotherapy rate.
